Played in the salubrious surroundings of the UL Bowl, Tipp scored a fine win over their
South Leinster counterparts to set up a place in the Shield semi-final

With Mikey O'Connor playing a starring role in midfield, a stronger Kilkenny side made it through to the final after being held out for twenty minutes by the South Tipp boys in brilliant sunshine

Mikey, joined by Kevin Griffin at left-back and Wojiech Cymerys in goal. All three acquitted themselves very well in a perfomance lacking the pressure of earlier ties and marred by a serious injury to the Roscommon goalkeeper in a clash in the six-yard box. South Tipp exit the Kennedy Cup with a very creditable 19th place in the country
